Skoda Elroq RS launched in Australia market for challenge others

Skoda Elroq RS : In a bold move to claim its stake in Australia’s increasingly competitive electric vehicle market, Skoda has officially launched the high-performance Elroq RS.

This latest addition to the Czech manufacturer’s lineup marks a significant milestone as the brand’s most powerful production model to date, bringing European performance engineering to challenge established EV players in the Australian market.

Skoda Elroq RS Power and Performance: Redefining Skoda’s Capabilities

The Elroq RS elevates Skoda’s electric performance credentials with an impressive dual-motor setup generating a combined output of 250kW (335bhp), making it the fastest accelerating production Skoda ever made.

With all-wheel drive capability, the Elroq RS catapults from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.4 seconds – a significant 1.2 seconds quicker than the standard rear-wheel drive Elroq 85.

Despite its performance credentials, the Elroq RS doesn’t sacrifice range, offering an impressive 572km of driving distance on the WLTP cycle.

This places it competitively against established rivals such as the Tesla Model Y Long Range, which offers similar distance capabilities.

The 79kWh (net) battery pack supports DC fast charging at up to 185kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in approximately 26 minutes when connected to compatible ultra-rapid chargers.

“The Elroq RS represents our commitment to delivering both performance and practicality in the electric age,” said Skoda Australia’s spokesperson.

“Australian customers have always embraced our RS products, and this electric interpretation maintains that performance DNA while adding the benefits of instantaneous electric torque and all-wheel drive capability.”

Skoda Elroq RS Distinctive RS Design Elements

While maintaining Skoda’s traditionally understated performance aesthetic, the Elroq RS incorporates subtle yet distinctive design elements that set it apart from standard models.

The exterior features revised bumpers, a more aggressive lower air intake treatment, and a finlet below the disguised main headlight unit.

The rear showcases a full-width reflective strip and gloss black insert, while gloss black trim extends to the wing mirror caps, roof rails, window surrounds, and Skoda lettering.

Perhaps most striking is the exclusive Mamba Green paint option, which gives the Elroq RS a distinctive presence on Australian roads.

The vehicle rides on aerodynamically styled alloy wheels available in either 20-inch or 21-inch sizes, while sitting 16mm closer to the ground than standard Elroq models, with ground clearance rated at 170mm.

The interior continues the sporting theme with black faux suede and synthetic carbon fiber accents throughout the cabin. Lime green stitching provides visual highlights across the sports seats, which feature a mixture of suede and leather upholstery.

A flat-bottom three-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons and flappy paddles for adjusting regenerative braking levels reinforces the performance-oriented experience.

Skoda Elroq RS Technology and Practicality Combined

Despite its performance focus, the Elroq RS doesn’t compromise on Skoda’s reputation for practicality and technology.

The vehicle comes equipped with a 5.0-inch digital instrument display behind the steering wheel, complemented by a 13.0-inch infotainment touchscreen positioned prominently in the center of the dashboard.

A head-up display is available as an option, projecting key information directly into the driver’s line of sight.

Standard features include matrix LED headlights, dynamic LED tail lights, tinted acoustic side windows, an electric driver’s seat with massage and memory functions, an electric tailgate, and the KESSY Advanced key system, which can unlock the car automatically on approach and lock it when the driver moves away.

The options list includes adaptive chassis control, a premium 675W 12-speaker Canton sound system, three-zone climate control, a front passenger seat with massage and memory functions, and rear sunshades.

Safety technology is comprehensive, featuring adaptive lane-keep assistance, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, and autonomous emergency braking.

Despite its sporting credentials, the Elroq RS retains a practical 470-liter boot capacity and spacious second row, maintaining Skoda’s “Simply Clever” philosophy of intelligent space utilization.

Skoda Elroq RS Market Positioning and Australian Pricing

The Elroq RS enters the Australian market at a strategic time, with electric vehicle sales continuing to grow despite recent market fluctuations.

Positioned as a premium offering in the compact to mid-size electric SUV segment, the Elroq RS will compete directly with established models like the Tesla Model Y Performance, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and forthcoming performance variants of the Kia EV5.

While Skoda Australia has not yet confirmed final pricing, industry analysts expect the Elroq RS to be positioned in the $75,000-$85,000 range, representing a premium over the standard Elroq which is due to arrive in the third quarter of 2025 at a price point likely to start in the mid-$50,000 range.

“RS products have always commanded a price premium, but they deliver a driving experience that justifies the investment,” commented a Skoda Australia representative.

“The Elroq RS isn’t just about straight-line speed – it’s about the complete package of performance, technology, and everyday usability that characterizes all of our RS models.”

Skoda Elroq RS Challenging the Established Electric SUV Order

The arrival of the Elroq RS represents a significant challenge to the established order in Australia’s electric SUV market. While Tesla has dominated the performance electric SUV segment with its Model Y Performance, and Hyundai has made inroads with the Ioniq 5 N, Skoda brings European design sensibilities and a slightly different value proposition to the table.

“Australian drivers have always appreciated European sports models, and the Elroq RS offers that dynamic driving experience with the additional benefits of zero-emission motoring,” said automotive analyst Michael Thompson.

“What’s particularly interesting is how Skoda has maintained its brand identity in transitioning to electric performance models – the Elroq RS still feels distinctly like a Skoda, just with a different powertrain.”

The Elroq RS benefits from Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, which underpins numerous electric vehicles across the corporate family, including the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX which shares a similar dual-motor powertrain. However, Skoda has worked to give the Elroq RS its own character through specific suspension and steering tuning.

Industry observers note that while the Elroq RS doesn’t match the outright acceleration of the Tesla Model Y Performance (which reaches 100km/h in closer to 3.7 seconds), it offers a more rounded package with superior interior quality and more engaging dynamics at a potentially lower price point.

Skoda Elroq RS Customer Response and Early Interest

Early indications suggest strong interest from Australian buyers, with Skoda dealers reporting significant inquiries since the global unveiling of the Elroq RS at Milan Design Week earlier this year.

“We’ve seen particularly strong interest from existing Skoda owners, many of whom currently drive petrol-powered Octavia RS or Kodiaq RS models and are looking to make the transition to electric,” noted one Sydney-based Skoda dealer.

“The combination of performance, practicality, and relative exclusivity seems to be resonating with a specific segment of buyers who want something different from the mainstream electric options.”

Skoda Australia has confirmed that while initial allocation numbers haven’t been finalized, they expect healthy supply of the Elroq RS to meet demand. This contrasts with some competitors who have struggled with supply constraints for their performance electric models.

Skoda Elroq RS The Future of Skoda’s Electric Performance

The Elroq RS represents just the beginning of Skoda’s electric performance journey in Australia. With the larger Enyaq SUV also confirmed for Australian launch in the third quarter of 2025, industry observers expect an Enyaq RS variant to follow shortly thereafter.

“Electrification allows us to reimagine what performance means for the Skoda brand,” said a Skoda Australia spokesperson.

“The instantaneous torque delivery of electric motors and the packaging benefits of dedicated EV platforms give our engineers new opportunities to create vehicles that deliver exceptional driving experiences.”

As Australia moves toward the implementation of its New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) in 2025, performance electric models like the Elroq RS will become increasingly important for manufacturers looking to balance their fleet emissions while still offering high-margin, enthusiast-focused products.

The Elroq RS is available to order now from Skoda dealers throughout Australia, with first deliveries expected to commence in July 2025.

Test drive vehicles will be available at select dealers from June, allowing prospective customers to experience firsthand what might be the most compelling alternative yet to the Tesla and Korean electric performance SUV establishment.
